How to Get Your Teen to Save Money Without Nagging Them

Are you trying to teach your teenager to save money? Feel like you would be better off trying to teach a brick wall to save? With the tips in this article not only will you be able to get your teen to start saving hopefully you will be able to get them excited about saving money! The idea of the tips in this article is to motivate your teen to start saving not to nag them so much that they do it just to keep you happy and end up spending the lot as soon as they leave home.
So where to start? The best thing to do is get your teenager excited about saving by having them set some small goals.
Get them thinking about things they can save for relatively quickly. Like a new handbag, a new stereo system or even a pair of shoes or item of clothing.
All depending on the sex of your teenager, the goals you come up with may differ.
Have your ideas prepared in advance, remember the first thing we need to do is get them excited! Try to avoid suggesting saving for a car or home, these are things that may take awhile to save for and your teen will probably lose motivation.
Next, use online calculators to show savings power, if you do a Google search for savings calculators it will bring up a list to choose from. What you need to do is get on the computer with your teen and show them how much money they can save with the power of interest and time.

They will then be able to see that if they save a certain amount each month in a high interest savings account for a specific time they will have enough money for what they want, your teen is new to money they may not realise how quickly they can save for what they want. My last motivating tip is optional of course but I think it can be one of the best motivators.
Match their savings, earning interest may be something that doesn't motivate teens as much as it should, it doesn't add up quickly enough for them. If you can match what you teen saves they will see results much faster, you could offer to match their savings for the first twelve months, or for every two dollars they save you would contribute one.

I hope these tips help you get your teen motivated to save!
